The Problem

RACE AGAINST TIME: OUR PLANET IS IN CRISIS

Today, 30% of the Earth’s soil is already degraded, and if we don´t take immediate action this percentage will rise to 90% by 2050.

To maintain global agricultural productivity and food supplies, increasing amounts of agrochemicals are required, which contaminate soil and water. Additionally, pristine natural areas are being destroyed to expand arable land surface. There has not been any technology developed to overcome soil degradation problems.

Billions of tons of CO2eq are being emitted annually into the atmosphere.

Global efforts to reduce global warming focus on reducing CO2eq emissions. However, transitioning to sustainable energy takes time. Achieving net-zero emissions requires the removal of billions of tons of CO2 annually.

Transform any degraded soil into a highly productive one

After diagnosing each soil problem we apply our technology based on the combination of scientific knowledge and the application of innovative techniques in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.

Generate renewable energy

During our production process we reuse all gasses for renewable energy generation. This contributes to the global transition towards sustainable energy alternatives.

03.

Remove and store carbon in the soil

By incorporating our product into the soil, we store stable carbon for hundreds of years, avoiding global warming.

Bacterchar:

At CALIGENIA we transform organic waste into BACTERCHAR, an innovative product emerged by a combination of an ancestral soil amendment with the latest scientific knowledge in biotechnology. The application of BACTERCHAR to the soil improves its physical-chemical properties and increases microbial activity.

Our team has succeeded in enhancing this ancestral amendment through the use of advanced techniques, enabling its effective combination with microorganisms of agricultural importance.

Microorganisms:

PGPMs (Plant Growth Promoting Microorganisms) are soil-specific microorganisms that colonize plant roots, helping to promote their growth and health. These microorganisms can fix atmospheric nitrogen, solubilize nutrients, and produce bioactive compounds that improve soil quality.

We search for ideal PGPMs for each agroecosystem and we reintroduce them by using our bacterchar as a carrier.

platform:

At CALIGENIA, we are developing a platform that allows us to predict how to transform degraded soil into a productive one using the best BACTERCHAR and PGPM combination.

Our platform algorithm integrates environmental and geographical data, as well as physical, chemical, and microbiological indicators of degraded and productive soils. Based on this information, the platform identifies productive fields in the same area as the degraded soils and, through multiple comparisons, proposes solutions for each edaphic problem.
